Jessica Brown was born in Panama; she and her mother migrated to Brooklyn, New York, when she was 11 years old. As a young girl she was resourceful, creative, and aspired to be an entrepreneur. Jessica attended Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where she concentrated her studies in pattern making, merchandising, marketing, and business management. After graduation, she worked as a production coordinator at various manufacturers. However, her most extensive experience started in 1998 where she worked until 2007 for Reem Acra, when it was just a small but very successful manufacturer of high-end bridal and eveningwear gowns. There, Jessica was primarily responsible for all aspects of production, overseeing quality control, and maintaining a calendar of schedule, a crucial component in the bridal market.
While at Reem Acra, Jessica developed a keen eye for premium quality luxury goods, combined with her education, business skills, and artistic creativity, she began Jesse Ciani Bridal. The name, Jesse Ciani, comes from Jessica’s first and middle names (Jessica Ciani). Her mother got the name “Ciani” from a movie she was watching back in Panama while she was pregnant with Jessica. As the closing credits rolled, she saw the name and fell in love with it.
